It's important to consult an expert when choosing your milk powder. The same applies to bottle quality. Finding the best powdered milk is pointless without a healthy bottle! Because that's no guarantee of better health for your baby.

These two elements form a complementary duo. To choose the best bottle for your little one, follow thislink .

What about breast milk?

Breast milk remains the best milk for infants.

  • It boosts babies' immune systems thanks to the antibodies it contains.
  •  It provides all the nutrients needed for growth.
  • Breastfeeding can also save you money, even if that's not the primary objective! 😉

If you don't plan to breastfeed directly, you may well decide to pump your milk with an electric or manual breast pump and then give it to your baby in a bottle.

You can also choose to breastfeed and give powdered milk from time to time. On the other hand, if you skip a feed, make sure you express your milk properly, so as not to suffer... Your breasts will indeed experience a rush of milk as soon as it's time to nurse, and you risk being indisposed.

The more powdered milk you give and the more you skip breastfeeding phrases, the weaker your lactation becomes. The weaning often starts this way. Choose your artificial milk substitute before considering this one.

Pumped milk can be stored at and given to baby at a later date, for example by your partner if you have to be away. What
should I look out for when giving formula to my baby?

1. Quantity of milk prepared

On the one hand, when switching to formula containing other carbohydrates, such as starch, it is important to not overfeed . If baby refuses to finish his bottle, there's no need to force him to drink. In most cases, your child knows when to stop eating just as well as you do.

Furthermore, the daily intake of drinks recommended by doctors must not be exceeded. Refer to your child'sage and the number of doses indicated on the milk can.

2. The temperature of the milk in the bottle

Powdered milk can be heated (preferably in a bain-marie). Beware of the risk of burns: check the temperature on the palm of your hand before offering the bottle to your baby!
The maximum temperature is 37°C.

3. Baby's possible "diets

Finally, most powdered milks contain VMP. In other words, cow's milk proteins. Some infants are intolerant to them. It is essential to take into account the symptoms of this intolerance and adapt the diet accordingly. A health professional will be able to guide you towards a specific milk adapted to your baby.

Why choose organic milk powder?

There's no shortage of major brands of industrial milk. Most have developed an organic range.

Although slightly more expensive, it is nevertheless preferable to feed your baby with organically-produced products, which guarantee that there will be no trace of antibiotics in your little one's milk.

You should also avoid feeding your baby formula in a plastic bottle, which leads to the absorption of millions of microplastic particles per day in just one child!

Powdered milks by age

1st age milk

In terms of composition, first-age milk is the closest to breast milk. Opting for this type of milk helps meet your child's nutritional needs for thefirst six months of life.

2nd age milk

Baby has passed the 6-month mark! Now he's ready for iron-enriched milk. Recognized by the number 2 on most cans, this is the milk that will accompany you until your baby is 12 months old.

3rd age milk

3rd age milk is almost a grown-up's milk! It can be offered to babies from up to 3 years of age without any problem, and from 1 year of age onwards. Look for the number 3 on milk cans to find it. This milk is suitable for baby's snacks and breakfasts.

Please note that some parents choose not to give their baby 3rd age milk, and switch directly to sterilized cow's milk.

How much milk to put in the bottle after 3 years?

Once your child is over 3 years old, you can give sterilized semi-skimmed cow's milk in a carton or bottle. Avoid whole milk, which may be too rich for your child.

Sterilized cow's milk can be consumed hot or cold, depending on your baby's taste.

Thistransition may not be easy! Give the milk either in a cup or glass, or always in the baby's bottle (preferably silicone to limit the emission of plastic particles), which will reassure your child.

Offer dairy products in the form of yoghurts or cheese to maintain calcium intake in this case.

Is it a good idea to give babyraw cow's milk in a bottle?

If you are able to source milk directly from a producer, remember to boil the milk for at least 40 minutes before giving it to baby, and keep it in a cool place for a maximum of 12 hours.

Otherwise, diseases such as listeria or salmonellosis can be transmitted. So be careful! Milk must be heated to over 100° for a certain period of time.

If you're not sure you're doing it right, it's best to use store-bought milk in carton packs.

The most important instructions for giving your baby milk powder

Both pre-milk and follow-on milks are produced from cow's milk. It's vital that every parent be aware of any possible intolerance to lactose, the famous protein found in cow's milk.

  • Choose a hypoallergenic baby milk, known as HA milk, if your child is concerned.
  • If baby doesn't drink all his bottles, throw away any leftovers. Leftover milk should not be given again the next day, as germs multiply very quickly.
  • Choose organic milk
  • Choose the right type of milk for your baby's age
