Comment éviter la formation de bulles d’air dans un biberon ? - Élhée

How to prevent air bubbles from forming in a baby bottle?

When it comes to bottle feeding your baby, it is essential to ensure that the amount of air ingested is minimal. Air bubbles can actually harm your child by causing digestion problems, discomfort and very painful colic ... These difficulties are even more difficult to bear as parents!

"Prevention is better than cure !"

To avoid getting to this point and having to treat symptoms linked to colic and stomach aches caused by air ingested during meals, it is wise to identify the situations causing the appearance of these air bubbles.

Here are some practical tips to ensure a more comfortable diet for your child!

SUMMARY :

The way the bottle is shaken to mix affects the formation of air bubbles.

In the interest of quality, many parents shake the bottle vigorously before giving it to their child. In this way, the milk formula does not include too thick pieces and the powdered milk contained in the bottle is completely dissolved.

Unfortunately, excessive shaking of the bottle causes air bubbles to form, sometimes so small that they are not necessarily visible to the eye.

It is best to always shake the bottle gently rather than shaking it vigorously. Since infant milk and formula are designed to prevent lumps from forming, simply rolling your bottle between the palms of your hand will be enough to obtain a suitable and harmless mixture.

Find the right angle when taking the bottle to reduce air ingestion and stomach upset

Proper bottle tilt during feeding is essential to reduce air ingestion and prevent stomach problems . Hold the bottle so that the milk fills the nipple, but without creating excessive pressure which would then cause air to enter. Generally, we recommend offering the bottle to a child while holding it horizontally.

In the same vein, limit sudden movements during meals so as not to shake the bottle too much. Not only could too vigorous movements hurt your baby and make it difficult for him to drink, but movements that are too nervous could worsen the formation of air bubbles. Opt for gentle, slow , steady movements for calm, comfortable eating.

Using an anti-colic bottle limits the appearance of air bubbles

Anti-colic bottles are specially designed to reduce air ingestion during feeding. They are equipped with ventilation systems that allow air to circulate without coming into direct contact with the milk.

Did you know that the Elhée anti-colic bottle was designed to offer maximum comfort to your child, both during and after their milk meal?

Our baby bottle, made from medical grade silicone , and therefore without the risk of spreading plastic microparticles into the child's food, is equipped with a soft physiological teat which reproduces the sensation of natural sucking .

Baby can thus enjoy a feeding close to that of the breast , without ingesting excessive air!

Fill the bottle respecting the indicated graduation

When preparing the bottle, avoid filling it to the brim! Even if you think that filling the void in the bottle will reduce the risk of intestinal discomfort by eliminating the present and “visible” air, it is instead advisable to leave a free space to allow the air to circulate and s 'evacuate alone.

Contrary to what one might believe, leaving a crawl space in the bottle helps reduce the formation of unwanted air bubbles. Indeed, when you shake the bottle to mix the formula, the air present can become trapped between the molecules of the liquid.

Additionally, this air space allows liquid to flow evenly and reduces pressure on the nipple. The suction is even more fluid !

To find your way, refer to the graduation indicated on the bottle itself. This is there to guide you in the quantity of liquid to pour in depending on the age of your baby. If the capacity is 240 ml , respect the limit and go no higher than the edge… 😉

If your child is very demanding and the bottle is too small to satisfy his appetite, it is better to consider upgrading to a larger size rather than saturating the bottle at each meal.

In summary

To prevent your baby from digestive problems, discomfort and colic related to air ingestion, it is important to take certain precautions:

  1. For example, avoid shaking the bottle vigorously . Mix the mixture gently to reduce the formation of undesirable air bubbles.
  2. Find the right inclination while feeding and limit sudden movements, which contribute to generating micro-air bubbles in the bottle.
  3. Always fill your bottle according to the indicated graduation to allow air circulation and evacuation.

The use of an anti-colic bottle is strongly recommended. The latter is in fact equipped with a ventilation system which prevents the influx of air into the milk during feeding.
